Pangu iOS 8 jailbreak Mac OS X

Pangu, the Chinese team of jailbreak developers, has launched a jailbreak tool today for Mac systems under the name Pangu 8. Using the tool, you can also use your Mac to jailbreak other Apple iOS 8 devices such as iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. Here is a detailed description about how you can jailbreak the iOS 8 device via Pangu 8 on a Mac system.


Before you jailbreak the device, there are few points which should be noted

  1. The iOS 8-iOS 8.1 devices mentioned below can be jailbroken using Pangu:
  • iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s
  • iPad Air2, iPad Air, iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2
  • iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2, iPad mini
  • iPod Touch 5G
  1. Ensure that you have taken complete backup of all your vital files and information via iTunes. Pangu jailbreak has worked successfully in majority of the devices, but it is still not a guarantee that nothing wrong will ever occur in the jailbreak process.

Step 1: Use the following link in order to download Pangu’s latest update for jailbreak.

Step 2: Make a connection between your Mac and the device which needs to be jailbroken. This can be done via a USB cable.

Step 3: Ensure that you have disabled Find my iPhone (Settings-> iCloud-> Find my iPhone) and Passcode (Settings-> Touch ID & Passcode), whereas Airplane mode should be switched on by enabling it.

Step 4: Now, click the right button of your mouse on top of the Pangu dmg file. You will be shown a message which enquiries whether you really wish to open the file since the internet has been used to download Pangu8. If you wish to continue, then tap on the button which says Open.

Step 5: It might take few minutes till your device is identified by Pangu. After the identification is done, tap on the blue colored option which says Start Jailbreak.

Step 6: In case you have already performed the complete backup of all your files via iTunes, and also if you have disabled and enabled the options stated in Step 3, then tap on the option which says ‘Already did’.

Step 7: Finally the task of jailbreak will begin on your device. You will see the following statuses in the same order as shown here:

  • Starting jailbreak ..
  • Transferring resources for jailbreaking ..
  • Preparing the environment ..
  • Waiting for device rebooting ..
  • Preparing the environment ..
  • Injecting ..
  • Jailbreaking ..
  • Final Cleaning ..

Throughout the process of jailbreaking, your device may shut down and restart many times. This is completely normal in this case.

Step 8: After the jailbreak process is over, you will see a message by Pangu8 saying that Jailbreak Succeeded! Since Cydia is also a part of Pangu8 now, you will be able to see the icon for the Cydia application on the home screen.
