How to Fix Slow iOS 8 Issues

Apple has released its new mobile operating system, the iOS 8, along with both of its latest gadgets, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus. Needless to say, this had brought a lot of excitement to those enthusiast Apple device buyers. All these new launches opened a whole new world for its users. iOS 8 is available not only for these new models, but also for some of the company’s older mobile models such as the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5.

Some users have instantly upgraded their iOS version to iOS 8 only to regret this decision because of some serious bugs in the update. A new version update brings a lot of bug fixes with it compared to the older versions, but they also come with their own set of problems, some of the problems being really serious as slowing down the performance of the device. This is exactly what most upgraded users, especially those users the older models, are facing at the moment. On upgrade, iOS 8 supported devices have become very slow and hangs frequently. Don’t fret, as we have a solution as to how you can make your device work faster by following the steps mentioned below.

  1. Switch off the option for Spotlight Search– The Spotlight Search option in iPhone is used to search for content that is stored within your phone without having to actually open the particular application. For this purpose, it does a lot of checking in the background along with sorting and putting the files in index form before displaying the result to the user. An extra feature regarding Spotlight Search in iOS 8 is that it also makes use of lot of data sources connected to the internet to give the correct output. All these jobs take up a lot of memory space on your mobile, especially older models of iPhone. Thus, it is advisable to switch off the Spotlight Search option on your device. Instead of completing disabling it, you can also switch off only certain sources from which you would not be searching any information. You can Find Settings for Spotlight search under Settings > General > Spotlight Search.

  1. Switch off the option for Background App Refresh- The Background App Refresh feature was available even for iOS 7. Now the iOS 8 also offers the same feature. For older models such as iPhone 4s and iPhone 5, the feature worked well on iOS 7 without causing any problems. But the same when used with iOS 8 causes the device to slow down to a huge extent. The processing power and battery life of the device reduces a lot when the applications are constantly refreshing in the background. This problem can be reduced enormously by disabling this feature in the settings of the device. You can disable it in Settings > General > Background App Refresh.

  1. Switch on the option for Reduce Motion- The Reduce Motion feature smoothens the zooms, shifts, parallax and many other components on the iPhone. This option can be enabled in the settings application of the device. By turning it on, the functioning of the device will speed up a lot. You can access it under Settings > General > Accessibility > Reduce Motion.

  1. Remove unwanted applications to get more storage space- In order to upgrade to iOS 8, users of older iPhone models would have had to previously delete many other files and applications on their phone as the new version demands a lot of extra space. If this was not enough, the problem does not stop after installing iOS 8. It is advisable to remove any files and applications which you do not use frequently as this will allow your device enough storage space to enable uninterrupted working. You can Remove apps according to Storage from Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage.

It would be great to get a feedback from users of older iPhone models as to whether the solutions mentioned above have assisted them in speeding up their device.
