Downgrade iOS 8.1.1 to iOS 8.1

Apple has just launched its latest operating system software named iOS 8.1.1 for its devices. The update includes several fixes to issues found in older versions as well as some enhancements to already existing applications. The Cupertino Company has created this upgraded version mainly in order to improve the functioning of its some of its old models such as iPhone 4S and iPad 2. However, it still supports most of the other iOS gadgets.

If you like to use a jailbroken device, then it is best that you don’t upgrade your gadget to iOS 8.1.1 as Apple has exploited some of the patches created by Pangu8 jailbreak. Nevertheless, if you have already upgraded it and wish to go back to a previous software version in order to use the jailbreak, you can still downgrade to iOS 8.1 before Apple signs it off. Those users who want to downgrade should do it immediately because Apple does not sign the older versions soon after an updated version has been launched.

If Apple does the same with iOS 8.1 and you have already upgraded to iOS 8.1.1, then you will have no other way to come back to the old version which means that you will not be able to jailbreak your device.

Steps for downgrading from iOS 8.1.1 to iOS 8.1

  • The first step is to download and install an iOS 8.1 IPSW
  • Plug your iOS gadget to your desktop machine or a Mac system
  • Launch the iTunes application
  • Change the mode of your gadget to DFU
  • Press down both the Power as well as the Home toggles at the same time for about ten seconds
  • Now release the Power toggle while still pressing down the Home toggle
  • As you press the Home toggle, a message window will appear on the iTunes application which says ‘iPhone Recovery Mode’.
  • Press down the Shift button (in Windows systems) or Option button (on Mac systems) and tap on the button which says ‘Restore iPhone’ from the iTunes window.
  • Now open the iOS 8.1 IPSW that you had installed previously
  • This action will prompt iTunes to downgrade the software of your gadget to the previous version

After you have finished the process for downgrading, you can jailbreak your device by installing it again on it. To learn how to do this, you can take a look at the links given here:

Those who are currently using iOS 7.1.2 are also advised to upgrade to iOS 8.1 at the earliest so that you can reap the benefits of the latest jailbreak.
